American Welding Society (AWS)
About the Club
American Welding Society (AWS) is an international association of students, instructors and professionals involved in the metal fabrication industry. Members include engineers, scientists, educators, welding inspectors, metal fabrication professionals, students, sales associates, and corporate management, among others. Those involved as students can carry their membership with them as they advance in their careers.AWS’s goal to advance the science, technology and application of welding and related joining discipline, including brazing, soldering and thermal spraying. AWS continues to lead the way in supporting welding education and technology development to ensure a strong, competitive and exciting way of life for all Americans.
For students, AWS membership provides them competitive platforms in which to showcase their skills and to be recognized, as they advance and perfect those skills. It also provides networking and professional development opportunities as well as other resources which help them build careers in the industry.
There are over 80 AWS student chapters located at seconday and post-secondary schools across the country and in the state of Ohio there are eight. For students, AWS membership provides competitive platforms in which to showcase skills and earn recognition and certifications. Membership also provides networking and professional development opportunities as well as many other resources which can help students build careers in the industry. Meet other welding students and professionals at Chapter meetings, local AWS Section meetings, and the FABTECH International & AWS Welding Show. When students serve as local officers in AWS, they gain valuable leadership skills that will help throughout their career.
The AWS club advisor is Metal Fabrication instructor Mr. Nick Baughman, who also serves as Co-Chairman for members in AWS’s Stark Central (Section 085), Division 10.
